RM-ODP

RM-ODP (Reference Model of Open Distributed Processing) is a formal system of concepts and modelling principles developed for describing open distributed systems.

RM-ODP is standardized as ISO/IEC 10746 and as the ITU-T Recommendations X.901–X.904. The reference model was developed in the field of computer science and was not intended to describe the psyche. However, it provides a sufficiently general and precise conceptual framework, some elements of which can also be used in constructing a model of consciousness.

Of particular importance for the model of consciousness are the concepts of object, state, action, interaction, behaviour, process, environment, and abstraction.

The use of these concepts makes it possible to draw an important distinction between reality and its model. In RM-ODP, for example, an object is defined not simply as an entity but as a model of an entity. An object therefore belongs to the model and should not be identified with that which is being modelled.

In the model of consciousness, the concepts of RM-ODP are used not as a ready-made theory of the psyche but as a formal language of modelling. They are refined and reinterpreted in relation to psychic reality and to the environment as a model constructed by the psyche.
